The Enabler and Involvement Service work with adults with learning disabilities and / or autism to achieve:

Support available
The service offer:
- one-to-one support
- community based group support
- involvement work
One-to-one support
The service work with people to:
- understand what matters in their lives and what a 'good life' looks like for them both now and in the future
- collaborate with families, carers and friends to create person-centred plans with individuals about their ambitions
- work with specialist support and professionals involved in someone's care to identify and address barriers
- access, participate and contribute to their local community
- build skills that develop independence and resilience
- develop circles of support that reduce reliance on services
- make sure they get the support they need
Community based group support
Through drop-ins and other community-based groups, the service can:
- offer support quickly to help people manage daily living tasks such as read letters or make appointments
- provide opportunities for people to come together, increasing the likelihood that people grow their social networks
- act as local experts in activities and opportunities for civic participation
- promote regional and national health campaigns to give people the knowledge and skills to improve their own health and wellbeing
- have conservations with people to get to know them over time, and find out what matters to them
- introduce people to community initiatives
- support people to get intervention from health or social care teams where needed
- run workshops that aim to build independent living skills and knowledge for people to live a more independent life
Involvement work
Your Voice Counts help run an involvement group based in South Tyneside called 'Equal People'.
It is made up of people with a learning disability who meet once a month.
Through the Equal People Network, the service works with teams throughout the Council to produce leaflets and surveys, as well as transferring information into easy read format to make sure it is suitable for children and young people with learning disabilities.
The service uses the network to share important information about the issues affecting people with learning disabilities and to get people's views and opinions about how to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families.
Who can access the service
Adults 18 years old and over with learning disabilities and / or autism.
People need to be able to travel and attend groups independently, or with their own support staff.
How to access the service
The service will invite you to a drop in with a carer or a professional, to meet the team and find out what is on offer.
