Overview

Paediatric dietitians help babies, children and young people to eat and drink well.

The team includes dietitians, dietetic support workers and clerical staff who aim to offer effective dietetic treatment for people with nutrition related diseases.

Support available

The team work with other professionals to sort any nutritional issues identified from patients.

If patients attend special schools in South Tyneside or Sunderland, the paediatric dietitians are in regular contact with staff to provide feeding plans.

They also arrange the delivery of feed or equipment for tube feeding.

If children have difficulty feeding, the team hold monthly feeding clinics.

The team

  • work closely with families to order feed and equipment
  • may organise pump feeding training for children and families
  • offer regular telephone appointments or additional outpatient appointments, to support children with meeting their nutritional needs, their growth and development.
