Overview

We offer a wide range of disability programmes to ensure children, young people and adults across the Northeast can enjoy sport, an active lifestyle and build friendships.

Our disability coaching team deliver fun, exciting, and challenging sessions and activities which help develop gross motor skills, balance, and coordination as well as encouraging teamwork, communication, and confidence.

The sessions provided range from Football, Multisport and Sensory Play, and are delivered during term time and through the half term holidays, with bespoke activity clubs.

Support available

All sessions and activities are delivered by our team of specialist disabilities coaches, who have a vast knowledge, experience and coaching experience working with children, young people, and adults with a wide range of SEND.

The sessions are all tailored to meet the needs and ability of those attending.  These groups provide access to a wide range of sports and physical activities including football, tag rugby, badminton, tennis, basketball and many more sports alongside sensory play.

The sessions utilise a wide range of indoor and outdoor facilities at the Beacon of Light, and the team of specialist coaches will adapt sessions to provide access and opportunities for those in attendance, through modified games and activities, adapted equipment or modified rules.

Who can access the service

The Making Moves programme provides opportunities for children, young people, and adults from the age of 5 years and above.

All participants must either have a diagnosis or be going through the process to be accessible for attending the sessions, but they can bring a sibling or friend without SEND to support them to engage with and gain confidence within the sessions.

How to access the service

Depending on the age of the participant, referrals will either come from parents / carers or self-referrals.  Upon arrival at a session, participants will be asked to complete a consent form which staff are happy to support with.

Queries can be made to Kevin Darke (Disability Coordinator) who will answer any questions around the sessions and their content.
